Why hello, old friends! Sorry I’ve been so absent lately. I moved, which made me realize I have way more makeup than I should (but really, it’s only one IKEA Helmer full….). And I’ve been spending lots of time just enjoying the heck out of summer and spending time with my boyfriend. I haven’t been in the blogging mood so I figured I’d just take a break until the mood struck to get writing again.
Now that the school year is back in full swing, my time is more structured and I think I’ll be able to get back to semi-regular posting. I can’t promise 7 posts a week, but I’ll see if I can swing one or two!
I’ve been MIA for so long I honestly couldn’t figure out what I should write about first. I decided to show you a good ol’ fashioned What I’ve Been Slapping Onto My Face Lately post to get back into the swing of things.
Simple has been the name of my game as of late. I do mix this up with the addition of an occasional blush or eyeshadow, but my longer commute has had me reaching for these basics. I may not always wake up bright AND early, but with these favorites I can fake it!
First, I apply Avène Thermal Spring Water Soothing Serum. My skin has been in pretty good shape lately so this is the only moisturizer I’ve needed. It absorbs quickly and keeps my skin from drying out during the day. During the winter I like to apply this under a creamier moisturizer. I find it makes everything else sit more nicely on my skin.
Next up is my tiny little sample of Laura Mercier Foundation Primer. This is my first time trying one of Laura Mercier’s primers and I really am impressed. This tiny tube has lasted me nearly a month and it’s still going strong. It adds lasting power to my foundation of choice.
Foundation time! I’ve been using Chanel Perfection Lumière (I have 22 Beige Rosé). I originally bought this during the winter but my skin was too dry and I couldn’t find a good base to make this work on me. I shelved it for use in the summer months when my skin is oilier. Unfortunately I had a slight obsession with sunless tanning lotions and spent so much time outside that this shade was far too light for me. My tan has finally faded enough that I can get some use out of this! I love the finish, but the staying power could use some work as it tends to fade after about 6 hours. With the Laura Mercier Foundation Primer underneath I can make it through the day pretty well though. I buff this in with my Sigma F80 brush and it really does give the most beautiful flawless look. I’m not sure if I’ll repurchase though; I’ve had my eye on that new Giorgio Armani foundation…
MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural (shown in shade Light) has been a staple of mine since I first began my love affair with makeup. It’s a must-have for setting foundation. It has just enough coverage to make it perfect for touch-ups on long days when my foundation is beginning to fade. I buff it into my foundation with a kabuki.
The flawless finish of the Chanel foundation and MAC MSFN means contouring is a must! I can’t be walking around with mannequin face! To contour I’ve been using MAC Harmony blush. This is a matte blush from the permanent line. I can’t remember where I read about it but somebody said it’s a great contour shade for lighter skin tones. I agree! I apply it with a tapered brush and blend with a kabuki to avoid the tiger stripe look.
I’ve spoken about this next product endlessly, so I’ll make this quick. MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Lightscapade is my go-to highlighter. I can honestly say I haven’t highlighted with anything else for the past 4 months. It gives such a pretty subtle glow! I have a backup because I don’t think I could live without this. I also like to slap a little on my lids to brighten up my eyes.
I also like to brighten my eyes with MAC Eye Kohl in Fascinating. It’s a white pencil with a bit of sheen to it. I like to pop a bit in the inner corners and the outer bottom third of my eye and then blend it out with a small eyeshadow brush. This makes my eyes pop so I can pretend to be alert in the early morning hours!
Maybelline Full ’N Soft Mascara is another item that I’ve gabbed on about in the past, but it really is fantastic. I try other mascaras at various price points from time to time but I always come back to this one. It gives me volume, length, and curl for under $10!
Not pictured: MAC Eyeshadow in Espresso for my brows. Seriously, that’s all I EVER use. I do have my eye on those MUFE Waterproof Brow Correctors though…have to pick one up soon!
And that’s it! It’s not terribly exciting, but natural can be just as pretty as being all dolled up! And it sure is quicker!
