There have been quite a few posts about neon from my favorite lady bloggers, and I love Love LOVE it all!
My obsession with neon actually started during my post-Christmas shopping (Yes, I buy myself lots of presents AFTER Christmas. Everything is on sale!) when I walked into American Eagle (Yes, I shop there. And yes, I’m probably much too old for that store.) and found myself drawn to a neon yellow tank top (Not on sale, but I had to own it.). So I wore the CRAP out of that tank top even though it was still dreary and wintry outside. I’m sure it looked terrible with my pasty winter skin, but that tank top is the ONLY thing that kept my sanity during snowstorm after snowstorm.
So imagine my complete and utter JOY when, instead of pastels, the spring trend was NEONS!!! I hate pastel (I’m looking at YOU, MAC! With your Quite Cute nonsense…) I always feel like an Easter egg. (Goodness this post is a little out of control, and why do I keep commenting on my own sentences? This is ACTUALLY how I talk in real life. Ask my friends.) Annnnnyway…
On to the point of the post.
Today was a very special day. Today the stars (clouds?) aligned and my Beauté lipstains were waiting for me in my mailbox after their LONG journey from Canada. Seriously. It was like 3 weeks. When have I ever waited that long for anything? Never. I was so excited that I had to take pictures of it in the CAR because I was too busy to actually go into the house to put it on. I saw Fluoron on Jessica’s post on Getting Cheeky and fell in love with it, so I immediately tore the box open and smacked it on. I got Harlot too. I’m sure I’ll swatch it in the near future.
Sincerely, it’s gorgeous. And I really think anyone can wear this color beautifully. It’s very bright, but you can build it up or sheer it out to your liking. It’s drying (duhhh, it’s a STAIN) but it’s not uncomfortable, and you can always layer a bit of Chapstick or gloss over it if you want some shine. I think it looks delightfully casual if left matte, as if your lips are just naturally neon pink (Effortless, darling!). I’m going to get a ton of use out of this during the remainder of spring and summer.
The cherry on top of my Beauté sundae of joy was my rendezvous with a little bottle of OPI’s Big Hair Big Nails from The Texas Collection. I’ve been eyeing it in my nail salon for weeks but Death By Polish’s post was the tipping point. I don’t own the polish and didn’t get a chance to take a picture of it in the salon, so I borrowed a photo from Death By Polish:
It looks very very very orange in the bottle, but it’s so different on the nails (Kind of like Fluoron, right?). It’s OPI’s sorbet finish, which is their version of jelly polish, so it’s sheer and a little watery. I can’t speak on application as my manicurist took care of it for me, so look at Death By Polish’s post for details on that. It did take three coats to achieve relative opacity. It’s still not completely opaque, but BOY, OH BOY is it ever BEAUTIFUL! When it dries it retains a wet, smooth look that’s like lip gloss on your nails. It looks completely different in different kinds of light too. It goes from orange to red to coral to pink depending on how you look at it.
If you love the look of neon nails, Tiffany at Will Work for Makeup posted a neon pink nail look today that’s just beautiful. Take a look at it here: Neon Nails.
Danielle at Bloomin’ Beauty also posted some beautifully bright nails from China Glaze’s Island Escape collection a few days ago. Check it out here: China Glaze Island Escape. Can you see yourself rocking any neon in the upcoming months? Are there any lovely neon products you think I should try? Take it to the comments, ladies! And gents? If any guys are reading this, your secret is safe with me! 😉
